Possibility Thinking for 2018

If you and I could see into the world of most people, an invisible look, I think we would see good hearted people pulling around their past. It’s almost like a big long chain they are dragging with rehearsed regrets, hurts, failures, and missed opportunities.

I clearly remember the day I cut the chain loose in my life. I was in my late 30’s and unintentionally had allowed my mind to focus on my past.

The result:

  • Lack of energy
  • Blame and excuses
  • Missed opportunities
  • Small thinking
The shift came when I intentionally started filling my mind with new information and images of possibilities. I read Denis Waitley’s book, The Psychology of Winning. In his book, Waitley states, “The winners in life think constantly in terms of ‘I can, I will, and I am.’ Losers, on the other hand, concentrate their waking thoughts on what they should have done, or what they don’t do.”

Questions for Leaders:

  • In general, what percentage of your time and energy is focused on the past and/or regrets?
  • What percentage is focused on the present?
  • What percentage is focused on future possibilities?
Now, think of how much your present connects to future possibilities.

Rick Warren said, “Whatever you focus on, you become.” Wherever you fall in the percentage regarding your past, present, and future thoughts, I want to encourage you to focus 80% on present and future. Let it drive you to NEW possibilities. Let it positively impact your leadership thinking and inspired goals.
