THE E&E FACTOR: ENERGY AND EXCELLENCE

When I was in the 4th grade, I had a remarkable teacher, Miss Lander. What made her remarkable to me as an average, mostly uninterested student was her passion to teach. She made each day:
  • fun and exciting (there were lots of laughter)
  • engaging and interactive (there were lots of questions)
  • visual and hands-on (there were lots of visual aids)
A couple of my favorite standout memories were that each day at recess, she would join us for dodgeball. Seriously, there she would be in her dress and tennis shoes slinging balls we threw at her. At the end of recess, she would laugh ad give hugs all around.

Also, each day she brought a big red apple and placed it on her desk. At the end of each day, she handed out the apple to the most engaged and active student that showed curiosity.

Everybody wanted that red apple. Everybody would wonder, “Who gets that apple today?” Of course, the apple day recognition got spread around– she found ways to recognize each of us. No one was left behind.

What was her secret?
The E&E factor: Energy and Excellence
Think about Miss Lander’s example for a moment. She wasn’t average, mediocre, or just good. She was a standout!

I have found when I work with leaders and teams, the E&E factor is a real difference-maker.

I’m 100% convinced that Miss Lander was intentional in making learning fun. The 4th grade was a turnaround year for me. I didn’t realize it at the time, but she was a gift to each of us. Thank you Miss Lander!

Let’s turn our life and leadership into a gift to others. Let’s make life, work, and our homes fun again!

Here’s to some dodgeball and red apples!
