How Attitude Determines Success (or Failure)

What word describes your success, career advancement, joy, contentment, peace, and relationships? (The answer? Your attitude.)

Every new day, new month, and new year is an open script for you to paint and write your success story. Let’s face it, your attitude is the number one factor that will determine whether you succeed or fail.

Have you noticed that for some, attitude presents a difficulty in every opportunity? While for others, attitude presents an opportunity in every difficulty. Your emotional body armor determines your success (and by emotional body armor I mean your attitude).

Here are seven key factors to consider regarding your attitude:
1. Your attitude will tell you what to expect.

2. Your attitude will set the tone in every relationship (including business relationships).
Stanford Research says the money you make is determined by 12.5% knowledge and 87.5% by your positive ability to deal with people.

3. Your attitude is your competitive advantage.
Most people struggle to stay positive. Leaders who stay positive and optimistic set themselves apart.

4. Your attitude will provide resilience in the face of adversity.
Before my back surgery several years ago, my surgeon told me, “Steve, in order to recover quickly, keep a strong, positive attitude. If you do, your recovery will be much faster.”

5. Your attitude will help you find the good in each day.
Each day, look for the blessings in life. There is always something to be thankful for!

6. Your attitude can provide you with energy, focus, and the juice you need to succeed.
Each day, place your hand on your heart and say, “I’m getting stronger and I have exceptional energy.” I started doing this over 20 years ago and successfully overcame a blood disorder. It is a practice I continue and like to think of as my daily blessing!

7. Your attitude is positive because being negative does not serve you.
My dad had a little phrase that I’ve shared before. He’d tell me this anytime I’d slip into a negative attitude, “Steve, change the channel.”

Your attitude will be your advancement this year. I encourage you to self-lead and be uniquely positive, as you’ll see a successful 2019 unfold. Attitude will make or break you and the people you lead and influence.

Here’s to your positive attitude!
