Several years ago, I was invited to speak at a leadership conference in Las Vegas. The theme was “Drive to Success”. Each of us who spoke was asked to provide inspirational keynotes around personal drive, work ethic, disciplines of success, and focused performance.
When it came time for my keynote presentation, I told a story of a very real time in my career when I found a season of burnout. I had subdued myself into thinking I had to rise early, work late, grind it out, and burn out rather than rust out. I’ wasn’t sure who I was trying to impress or where I got that shallow messaging. Thankfully, over time, it led me to a renewed mission: to seek a great life balance.

My goal was not that every aspect of my life would be in perfect balance or harmony, but that I’d give equal attention to my core four.

My new drive to success wasn’t predicated on just working harder, but on working in a more balanced, steady rhythm that created a sustainable pace and brought back the joy.

Take a moment to think about your core four and any adjustments you can make.

Here’s to a life balance that works!
