How to Regain Strength and Focus – Preparing for Post COVID-19

I take a lot of pride and preparation in leading others. From coaching, mentoring, speaking, to empowering others. Recently, I’ve gained a lot of thought around my own sustainability and how to regain my strength and focus as a leader.

I’ve always believed I must “wake up” and lead myself first, before I can lead others. A few days ago, I was cleaning up our garage and got frustrated with the COVID-19 situation we are currently dealing with. I kicked a box across the garage, letting out a loud word (that I won’t mention). I later realized I’ve had a lot of pent-up emotions, emotions I’ve stuffed way down during this Stay at Home Advisory we are all enduring.

I provide this illustration to remind you that we all have stuffed a lot away. We are doing our best in the midst of uncertainty and anxiousness.

I am re-setting and I challenge you to do the same.

I’m focusing on four areas to regain my strength and focus, preparing for post-coronavirus.

1. My Purpose and Passion

I’ve found success in life is getting out of bed in the morning knowing there is something that’s bigger than me, and that I can hardly wait to get at it again today. I’m reenlisting my purpose and passion to “inspire greatness in others.”

2. Principles
I’m going to stay true to my core principles, values, beliefs, and restrengthen around them.

3. Practices
It’s true, successful people practice daily what unsuccessful people do occasionally or when they feel like it. I’ve made a list of 7-daily practices I will do every day moving forward. These include: morning ritual, planning, focus on high-value work, daily fitness, time blocking, journaling, and pausing before I speak or respond.

4. People
I’m investing in my family, friends, clients, team, and new relationships.

I believe in the midst of COVID-19 (or post COVID-19), no leader needs to ever burn out or fade out. There have been many times in my leadership career where I’ve gotten tired, frustrated (kick the box), and felt discouraged. I’ve learned it’s a perfect time to go back to my purpose and passion, my principles and practices, and stay focused on the right people.

Let’s take a deep breath and stay strong!
