THE POWER OF THE LEADERSHIP SUCCESS LOOP

Wherever you are in your organization, I’m sure you would like to gain greater influence and credibility. Don’t try shortcuts, quick fixes, office politics, or gossiping.

Instead, learn to understand the power of unleashing the power of a proven process called the LEADERSHIP SUCCESS LOOP.

1. Genuinely care for others

People always move toward someone who genuinely cares for others– someone who increases their value and away from people who take no interest in their well-being. Show people that you care by taking a genuine interest in them.

2. Listen to their story

Get to know them as an individual with unique journeys and stories. Take time and effort to talk to your peers in the organization. Ask to hear their story. Try to discover their unique passions and skills.

3. Sincerely appreciate others

Whenever I travel for speaking engagements, I choose one person in the food service industry who provides exceptional service. I hand them a $20 bill and sincerely thank them. This way, I am able to brighten their day. I found that sincere appreciation can fuel continued effort.

Who can you appreciate today?

4. Contribute to others’ success

Few things will elevate your credibility than contributing to others’ success. I love Zig Ziglar’s quote and commit to practicing it:

“You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want”

5. Affirm other people’s gifts

According to Webster’s dictionary, the word affirm means “to make firm”. Remember, when you affirm your peers and teammates, you make firm within them the things you see about them. That belief solidifies within them their gifts and contributions.

6. Servant leadership

The best way to lead others is to serve others. One of my life verses is Philippians 2:3:

“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility, count others more significant than yourselves”

When you lead with a servant’s heart, you gain credibility.

7. Raving success

Great leaders don’t use people to gain personal success or to win. They lead others by example so that they all can win.

When Lou Holtz was coaching the Notre Dame football team he would say,

“Do what’s right! Do the best you can and treat people the way you want to be treated– and you’ll experience raving success!”

As you practice the Leadership Success Loop, you’ll notice people will respond to you differently. They will move toward you because you increase their personal value and self-worth.

Here’s to being the leader others want to follow!
