The Art of Laser Focus:
How to Do Less but Achieve More

Ever feel like your brain is running a marathon before you’ve even had your first sip of coffee? The mental chatter, the never-ending to-do list, the constant stream of requests—it’s enough to make anyone want to hide under the desk for a quick timeout.

Sound familiar?

Here’s the thing:
You’re not alone.
We all wrestle with the same question every single day—
Where do I put my time and energy?

And yeah, you’ve probably heard it a million times: Narrow your focus! But how? Really how?

Let’s cut through the noise with a simple, battle-tested method to laser in on what matters most.

Pro Tips to Stay on Track

Over the years, I’ve picked up a few tricks to protect my focus—here are the ones that work best:

  1. Email on a Leash – Check it three times a day (morning, midday, evening). No more reflexively hitting refresh.
  2. Silence the Ping – Turn off instant messaging. Your brain (and your productivity) will thank you.
  3. Disconnect to Reconnect – My personal favorite: 90 minutes of airplane mode. No calls, no texts, no distractions—just deep, focused work.
  4. Say “No” Like a Pro – Every “yes” should be an MVP. (Shoutout to my EA, Jamie, for keeping me honest on this one!)
  5. Time-Box Calls – Start every conversation with your “hard stop.” Respect your time, and others will too.
  6. Tame the Social Media Beast – Limit scrolling, unsubscribe from junk mail, and guard your attention like the precious resource it is.

Two Truths to Live By

As a leadership coach, I remind my clients (and myself!) of these two game-changers:

  1. Your mind is a battlefield. What you feed it shapes you. Stay intentional. “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” (Proverbs 23:7)
  2. Your time is a battlefield. Every minute is a chance—don’t waste it on things that don’t matter.
So here’s my challenge to you:
What’s one step you’ll take today to narrow your focus and maximize your impact?

Let’s make it count.
