2 Questions to Ask Yourself Before You Get on Your Next Zoom

Have you ever got on a Zoom meeting feeling fatigued, stressed, distracted, and irritable???

1. How am I showing up?

What is my current reality?
What are my current emotions, moods, and attitudes?

You might be feeling…

  • Drained
  • Anxious
  • Fatigued
  • Disturbed
  • Stressed
  • Anxious
We know these emotions are contagious.

Research from Harvard University supports the idea that the emotions you feel are contagious– even on a virtual meeting like Zoom. They will be picked up by each participant and will affect their emotional state.

Be self-aware.
Be attuned to how you show up.
Be mindful of the emotional currency you’re exchanging with your peers. Will they leave this meeting energized, or will you leave them feeling depleted?

2. How do I want to show up?

I’ve known this question prompts me to be intentional with my emotions. It’s a simple 60-second reset when you say “I choose to show up right now with the right emotions”.
  • The kind of emotions that affects others positively.
  • A type of energy that is attractive to others and one that projects optimism.
  • A unique and confident body language. YES! Even on Zoom, your posture, smile, eye contact, and expressions speak loud and clear if you are a confident leader who has a great presence.
Don’t be distracted.
Don’t show up lacking energy.
Don’t ignore your emotional contagion.

Try it and I’m sure you’ll like it. People will feel your difference as a personal leader.

I like to say “You are contagious with your emotions– hopefully, people are catching the right emotions!”
