Four Proven Strategies of Focused Leaders

“Keep your mind off of what you don’t want by keeping it on the things you do want.”
– W. Clement Stone

What do you want to accomplish in the next 90-days in your business?

Sometimes, I actually take out a small index card and write out five or six specific goals for the next 90-days.

  • I like to build an intentional schedule that is driven by my priorities, not problems.
  • I like the feeling of taking control of driving results.
  • I like it when momentum kicks in.
  • I like to her my Executive Assistant, Jamie, say, “Steve, we are in a zone!”

Once you know your goals, it’s then about goal getting!

Four proven strategies of focused leaders

1. Strip away clutter and distractions
Where do you do your best work?

Jim Collins, author of Good to Great, remarked, “The real path to greatness requires simplicity and diligence. It demands focus on what is vital—and to eliminate distractions.”

Keyword: Eliminate

Sad to say, it took me a few years to figure out the place I do my best, focused, and creative work—early in the morning, at our kitchen island. No distractions. No computer screens. No notifications. Clutter is the killer to creativity!

I encourage you to find a place free of distractions to do your best work.

2. Cut the head off of multitasking
Switching from task to task can cost you up to 40% efficiency. All the current research says the highest, most productive leaders don’t look at emails while working on focused projects or meeting with people.

I personally challenge you to focus your energies on your #1 priority. Focus like an athlete on “one play at a time.”

3. Keep your 90-day goals current
Are your goals clear?
Do they stretch you?
Are they documented?

I believe goals are very important in business, in families, and in health. Our mind will not focus until it has clear objection. The purpose of goals is to focus our attention and energies.

Take 15-20 minutes to write out and update your 90-day goals:

  • 3 dynamic business goals
  • 3 purpose-driven family goals
  • 3 health and family goals

4. Keep your energy a priority
Once you have clarity, focus, and specific goals, it’s all about energy.

I love watching the Indianapolis 500 Race. Takuma Sato earned $2,458,129.00 for his victory in the 101st Indianapolis 500 in May 2017. What you learn about racing is that it’s not just about speed, but about race management, pit stops, fuel, tires, and small adjustments to the cars performance and energy.

You and I are in a daily kind of race. Energy management will be the key to your performance.

I will devote an upcoming post to this topic. Let me remind you of your core four:

  • Sleep (rest and recovery)
  • Nutrition (80% raw, natural foods)
  • Strength and conditioning (20-minutes, 4 days per week)
  • Supplements (high quality supplements to strengthen your immune system)

Let’s focus on powerful, meaningful work. Let’s build purpose-driven families. Let’s keep and maintain our optimum health to achieve remarkable results!

Here’s to 90-days of focus!
