How Leaders Inspire Action

The late Stephen Covey, famous author of the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, encourages his readers to "begin with the end in mind".

Have you noticed how leaders inspire actionable responses?

Have you noticed how leaders move us to action and keep us focused?

Have you noticed how leaders never shy away from defining accomplishments and drive us to greatness?

Whether you lead a team or lead yourself, it is critical to determine... what is our defined goal(s)? It is equally important to set daily priorities in alignment with those goals, and drive action.

The key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities.
— Stephen Covey

I watched a little league practice a few days ago on an afternoon walk. Being a former youth coach, I watched with intensity as two coaches orchestrated a well organized and enthusiastic practice. You could feel the energy. I wanted to grab a glove and jump in! At one moment the coached summoned every player to stop. He reminded them that "we will be the best prepared team in the league, and we will play like champions!" Every eye lit up! Every player stood tall!

What are you doing to inspire your team? What are you doing to inspire yourself?

Here is a (mini-list) I often reflect on:

  • I will be the best prepared professional
  • I will outwork, out-hustle the competition
  • I will surprise and delight every client
  • I will never "wing it"
  • I will set "stretch goals" and be a goal-setter and goal-getter
  • I will inspire greatness in my team
Most of us spend too much time on what is urgent and not enough time on what is important.
— Stephen Covey

How can you inspire action today? Do not wait for a better day or perfect condition. DO IT TODAY!

The great NFL coach George Allen once said, "The future is now!" Let's inspire action today!

Here's to building better leaders!

In today's fast-paced competitive work environment, how effective are you as a leader? Emotional Intelligence (EI), our ability to manage ourselves and others around us, is the single greatest contributor to personal excellence and high performance in leadership.

Looking forward to partnering with the Everett Police Department this coming week for another incredible team training on Emotional Intelligence. Such important work these officers do, I am honored to work along side of them!
